What do people say about us when we are not in the room?
Most of them nothing. Majority of people don’t even know we exist.
From the ones who do, a lot of them just don’t care enough to even think about us.
Then there are those rare few who will mention us, sometimes.
What they say is essential.
It’s often their most uncensored view of us, which will determine the nature of our bond. And that’s crucial for building and maintaining any meaningful relationship.
It seems to me that a good rule of thumb is to do my best to be the person I wish those people are talking about when I’m not in the room.
